There are a lot of healthy foods we have to thank the Andean natives for and it seems that Maca is one of them. So we think. Maca is a plant that grows in the Peruvian Andes for the past 3000 years. It may look like a potato, however it has the shape of radish. The roots are dried and grounded to powder. Maca is a source of protein, minerals and vitamins. It has a an awful taste that can be disguised pretty good in your daily smoothie. But are there real benefits?
We don't want to contradict the Incas however further research has yet to determine the effects of consuming raw Maca powder in your smoothie or yoghurt. Although there isn't enough information about how Maca works, there are a number of benefits attributed to this Inca superfood:
- Energy boost (without the crash)
- Improves memory
- Sex drive
- Eases menstrual problems
- Hormonal imbalance (menopause)
- Improves the immune system
